Green baby gifts
I posted in my Green Journal about wanting to know what I could get a pregnant friend who has extremely ungreen things on her registry. Ultimately, we’re getting plug protectors from her list, an organic cotton elephant, a stuffed firefly like one my son got as a gift and loved, some hand-me-down baby clothes, and some baby clothes my mom’s trying to get rid of (long explanation). And maybe some lotion and body wash my mom got me that my husband is allergic to. The lotion & body wash is unopened, and my friend said clothes from garage sales would be fine, so this should all work out pretty well. Oh, and I might throw in a couple packages of Seventh Generation wipes.

how about handmade baby powder. start with one cup of cornstarch. i use organic because it is not gmo. add a handful of dried lavender buds. i grow a lavender plant. you may find it in the bulk bins at a health food store or co-op. put in a pretty recycled container. i paint a lid, or stretch a circle of cloth over a bit of batting placed on top of the lid. i hold it down with a rubber band, then even out the gathers that form. i tie a ribbon around the rim of the lid and voila. the longer the lavender sits in the cornstarch, the stronger the scent becomes. almost forgot the powder puff. i just sew a circle of fuzzy fabric layers that will fit inside the container and sew a button thru the center to hold onto. emmer
